On 15th February 1930 C.E. in the village of Boparai at Gurdwara Sachkhand Sahib, while listening to the kirtan of Asa Di Vaar, Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji Bhindranwale left their mortal frame for Sachkhand. In their lifetime Sant Ji completed 21 Lareevaar Kathas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji 21. The last Katha was completed by Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. Sant Ji taught over 1300 Vidhiarthis, of whom 1000 became Akhand Paathis, 200 became Parcharaks, and 100 became Kathavaachiks. Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji spent all their life in the selfless service of the Khalsa Panth. The following extract is from Sri Gurmukh Parkash by Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, who witnessed the final moments of Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji at Gurdwara Sachkhand Sahib, Boparai:
ਤਿੰਨ ਵਜੇ ਸਭ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਿਲ ਆਏ। ਆਸਾ ਵਾਰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕੋ ਗਾਏ।
At 3 am all the Singhs met together in the Darbar Sahib and sung Asa Di Vaar Kirtan.
ਸੋਲਾਂ ਛੱਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ। ਸਤਾਰਵਾਂ ਛੱਕਾ ਗਾਵਤ ਲਏ॥੪੧॥
16 Chakkas (1 Chakka = Chhant + Pauri) were completed. The 17th Chakka was started with the following Pankti:
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਸੁਘੜ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
Those whose hearts are filled with the love of Har, Har, are the wisest and most clever people, O Omnipresent King.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥ ਛੱਕਾ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੀਰਤਨੀ ਅਟਕੇ। ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਨਾਵੇਂ ਮਹਿਲ ਤੱਟਕੇ।
After completing the Chakkas, the Kirtan was stopped and the Bhog Saloks of the ongoing Sri Akhand Paath Sahib commenced.
ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਕਾ ਭੋਗ ਜਬ ਪਾਯਾ। ਅਚਰਜ ਰੰਗ ਚੇਹਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਆਯਾ॥੪੨॥
When the Sri Akhand Paath Sahib Bhog was completed, a wondrous glow appeared on Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji's face.
ਖਿੜਿਆ ਮਸਤਕ ਰੰਗ ਸੋ ਲਾਲੀ। ਜਨ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜਿਆ ਅੰਸੁ ਮਾਲੀ।
Sant Ji's face was glowing with the same radiance as the rays of the rising sun.
ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਯਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਬ ਹੀ। ਪਾਠ ਸਮਾਪਤੀ ਲਖ ਸਭ ਹੀ॥੪੩॥
The whole Sangat including Sant Ji bowed their heads at the completion of the Akhand Paath Sahib.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਜ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ। ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ।
At this same moment, the blessed soul of Sant Ji merged back with the formless Vaheguru (Nirankaar).
ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਮੇਂ ਮੇਲੇ। ਆਪ ਅਕਾਲ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ॥੪੪॥
The bodily elements merged back with the five elements. Sant Ji's true form (aatma) merged back with the Timeless (Paramatma - Akaal Purakh) with ease (i.e. in the same manner that water merges with water).
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੀਨ ਭਇਓ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਨੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੧੧॥
Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji says, the Brahamgiani merges with the Lord of the Universe, like water with water. ||3||11|| - Ang 633

Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji further writes in Sri Gurmukh Parkash Granth:
ਆਸਾ ਵਾਰ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਕੀਨੀ। ਕਰ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਦਿ ਵਰਤੀਨੀ ।
ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਾਯਾ ਭਾਈ । ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੰਜ ਕਕਾਰ ਪੈਨ੍ਹਾਈ ॥੫੮॥
(After Sant Ji left their body) Asa Di Vaar was completed, Ardaas was performed and Karaah Parshaad was served in the Sangat. Sant Ji’s body was bathed, dressed with new clothes and Panj Kakaar were placed on Sant Ji’s body.
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਪਰਕਰਮਾ ਕਰਾਈ। ਕੀਰਤਨ ਅਖੰਡ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਸੋ ਗਾਈ।
ਦੂਰ ਦੂਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਵੈ । ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੁਣੇ ਮਨ ਉਛਲ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੫੯॥
The Sangat did Parkarma (circulated) of the Gurdwara Sahib with Sant Ji’s body while singing Kirtan continuously. Sangat came from far and near, whoever heard this news (of Sant Ji’s passing) their mind filled up with emotion.
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੋ ਸਾਰੇ। ਭਾਰੀ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਸਜਿਓ ਤਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ।
ਅੱਠ ਵਜੇ ਚਾਰ ਫੱਗਣ ਸਵਾਰੈ । ਪੂਰੇ ਭਏ ਰੂਪ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥੬੦॥
The Singhs accepted the will of Akaal Purakh, a great Diwaan took place before the Antim Sanskaar. It was 4 Phalgun, at 8 am, when Sant Ji merged with the complete form, Akaal Purakh.
ਢਾਈ ਪਹਿਰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਖੰਡਾ।ਕਰਿਓ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਵਿਰਾਗ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡਾ।
ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਦਿਸ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਈ ।ਬੇਰੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਚਿਖਾ ਰਚਾਈ ॥੬੧॥
For 2.5 Pehar (one pehar is around 3 hours) Kirtan continued non-stop. A great feeling of Vairaag had entered the Sangat. On one side of the Gurdwara, a pyre made of beri (jujube) and Chandan (sandalwood) was assembled.
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਉਚਾਰੀ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਖਵਾਕ ਤਬ ਵਾਰੀ ।
ਦੇਵ ਗੰਧਾਰੀ ਰਾਗੁ ਮੰਝਾਰਾ। ਸੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਹੁਕਮ ਉਚਾਰਾ॥੬੨॥
Accepting Guru Ji’s Bhaana Ardaas was done and Hukamnama Sahib was taken. At that time Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji blessed the following Hukamnama from Raag Devgandhari:
ਦੇਵਗੰਧਾਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥
ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਾਲ ਨ ਖਾਤੇ ॥
ਰੰਗਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ਲਾਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਮਹਾ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕੋਟਿ ਦੋਖ ਰੋਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ਹਾਤੇ ॥
ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਪਰਾਤੇ ॥੨॥੮॥
Vaheguru Ji is my praanaa, my breath of life; He is the Giver of peace.
By Guru's Grace, only a few know Him. ||1||Pause||
Your Saints are Your Beloveds; death does not consume them.
They are dyed in the deep crimson colour of Your Love, and they are intoxicated with the sublime essence of Vaheguru Ji's Name. ||1||
The greatest sins and millions of pains and diseases are destroyed by Your Gracious Glance, O Vaheguru Ji.
While sleeping and waking, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji sings Vaheguru Ji's Name, Har, Har, Har; he falls at Vaheguru Ji's feet. ||2||8|| - Ang 592
ਚੌਪਈ- ਸੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪਛਾਨੇ। ਸੀ ਮੁਖਵਾਕ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਣ ਕਾਨੇ।
ਪਹਾੜ ਕੋਣੇ ਤਨ ਚਿਖਾ ਟਿਕਾਯਾ। ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਧੂੱਪ ਘ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਯਾ ॥੬੩॥
Hearing this Hukamnama the Sangat realised that the Saints were truly beyond death.
After the Hukamnama Sahib, the wood was piled around Sant Ji’s body like a mountain, incense and ghee were placed in large quantities.
ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਿਆਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਗਿਵਾਰੀ। ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਹੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਰੀ ।
ਸ਼ਾਮ ਵਕਤ ਸਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਯਾ। ਸਦ ਅਸੰਗ ਨਹਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਯਾ ॥੬੪॥
Bhai Gurdial Singh Ji led the Kirtan which all the Sangat sang along with. During the evening the Sanskaar (cremation) of that Sant Ji took place, he who never came or went (i.e. that being who had merged with Vaheguru, and had been sent only to do Parupkaar, they were beyond birth and death).
ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਪੜ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਰਤਾਯਾ। ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਆਰੰਭ ਰਖਾਯਾ।
ਆਸਾ ਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਲਾਗੈ। ਸਹਸ ਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ਨਿਤ ਕਰ ਰਾਂਗੈ॥੬੫॥
When the pyre was half burnt, Sri Sohila Sahib was recited and Karaah Parshad was distributed. Sri Akhand Paath Sahibs were started, Sri Aasa Di Vaar would take place daily in the morning and Salok Sehiskritee Katha in the evening.
After the bhog of 25 Sri Akhand Paath Sahibs, Guru Sahib blessed the following Hukamnama Sahib:
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ਚਰਨ ਭਏ ਸੰਤ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਤਰੇ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਜੇਤ ॥
ਮਾਰਗ ਪਾਏ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਸੇ ਭੇਤ ॥੧॥
The feet of the Saints are the boat, to cross over the world-ocean.
In the wilderness, the Guru Ji places them on the Path and reveals the secrets of the Vaheguru Ji's Mystery. ||1|| - Ang 810
Alongside the Sri Akhand Paath Sahibs, 125,000 Paath of Sri Jap Ji Sahib and 1,95,000 Paath of Sri Jaap Sahib were completed by Gursikhs in Sant Ji’s memory.
